Everton set to announce Roberto Martinez appointment within next 48 hours

EVERTON are set to formally announce Wigan boss Roberto Martinez as their new manager within the next 48 hours.

Martinez topped the shortlist of candidates for the position with Celtic manager Neil Lennon, Porto coach Vitor Pereira also vying for the vacancy.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan had been seeking a £2m compensation package for Martinez, and now it seems it is just a case of a few formalities before Martinez assumes the helm at Goodison Park.

The Toffees are now due to hold more talks with Martinez in the next 24 hours to finalise the finer details of his contract.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has been searching far and wide for a manager after David Moyes quit to join Manchester United.

And now Martinez, who captured the FA Cup last month with a 1-0 win over Manchester City at Wembley will be tasked with helping Everton scale new heights.
